Fire, Sex, and Stories

Recently the speaker at my daughter’s high school chapel compared sex to fire.  “Fire isn’t bad.  It’s powerful.  It deserves respect.  Used improperly, fire can kill.  But used properly, it can give life.”

The same is true of sex, of course.

And stories.

Some people feel stories are simply entertainment.  “It doesn’t affect me,” they shrug.  But the ancient wisdom of Proverbs says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”  Whether we acknowledge it or not, stories of all kinds (oral, written or visual) have great power over us.  And as a wise web-slinger once said, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Amen, Spidey.
